ANKAAA collaborated with the Mulka Project, an Indigenous film crew based at Buku-Larrnggay Mulka Art Centre in Yirrkala, to produce a documentary about the first two workshops.

Harvesting Traditional Knowledge | Kimberley 2013

In September 2013, the Association of Northern, Kimberley and Arnhem Aboriginal Artists Aboriginal Corporation (ANKAAA) held its second ‘Harvesting Traditional Knowledge’ workshop, together with Mowanjum Spirit of the Wandjina Aboriginal Corporation and the Centre for Materials Conservation, University of Melbourne.

A third mini-workshop was held at the ANKAAA Annual conference at Mt. Bundy Station in November 2013. Led by master string makers Regina Wilson (Durrmu Arts, Peppimenarti), Lily Roy (Milingimbi Art and Culture) and Judy Manany (Elcho Island Art and Craft), the workshop brought together artists, two conservation professionals, a local ethnobotanist and an anthropologist.

Earlier this year the Association of Northern, Kimberley and Arnhem Aboriginal Artists (ANKAAA) held the first Harvesting Traditional Knowledge in Yirrkala in the Northern Territory. Awaye! (ABC Radio) was there for the on-country workshops which brought together Australia’s leading conservators and curators, as well as traditional Aboriginal artists.
